NFL analytics with Claude

Give Claude structured NFL data instead of asking it to remember a box score. Connect NFL MCP once, then research players, teams, injuries, and fantasy football in your conversation.

Connect Claude to NFL MCP

Use a custom remote connector in Claude web or Desktop. Your Claude plan and organization settings control whether you can add connectors; Team and Enterprise workspaces may require an owner or administrator.

  1. Create or sign in to your NFL MCP account at nflmcp.com.
  2. Open Claude's Customize > Connectors area and add a custom connector with the URL https://mcp.nflmcp.com/mcp. Some versions expose this under Settings > Connectors.
  3. Choose OAuth sign-in. If Claude asks for OAuth client setup, use automatic registration when available; you do not need to supply your own client secret for that flow.
  4. Complete the NFL MCP browser consent flow, then enable the connector in your conversation's tool menu.
  5. Ask for a specific completed-season comparison and confirm Claude calls an NFL MCP tool before answering.

Use NFL MCP in Claude Code

Add the hosted server over HTTP, then use Claude Code's /mcp menu to authenticate and inspect the connection. Restart or reconnect if a client update leaves an expired session.

Run in your terminal
claude mcp add --transport http nfl-mcp https://mcp.nflmcp.com/mcp

Claude Desktop and other clients

Claude Desktop can use the remote connector or the OAuth-only .mcpb bundle from the dashboard quickstart. The bundle connects to the hosted server; it does not download the NFL database or ask for an API key.

Cursor, VS Code, and other remote MCP clients can use the same endpoint. The dashboard quickstart includes their installation actions. Client setup does not change your NFL MCP plan or quota.

When Claude does not call a tool

Check that the connector is connected, authenticated, and enabled in this conversation. Ask Claude to answer using the connected NFL tools and identify the season and metric. A tool outside your plan, an expired token, or an unsupported season should produce a limitation, not a guessed statistic.

Installing a skill or reading these docs does not connect the server. Do not paste credentials into a chat prompt.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an API key for Claude?

Not for the recommended browser OAuth connection or the Claude Desktop bundle. API keys are a fallback for clients that support fixed authorization headers.

Does automatic registration mean no login?

No. Dynamic client registration creates the OAuth client's registration automatically. You still sign in to NFL MCP and authorize access.
